BYD Confirms August Humanoid Debut at Di Space Venues

BYD has stopped teasing and started dating the calendar. On July 28, 2026, the EV giant confirmed to China Securities Journal — as reported by CnEVPost — that it will unveil a humanoid robot in August at its Di Space science-and-experience venues.

Three days earlier, the WeChat account for Di Space’s Zhengzhou venue had already posted a humanoid teaser: “in early August, a new friend wants to meet you,” with copy that promised presence over a spec sheet.

What We Know — and What We Don’t

Confirmed via CnEVPost’s July 28 report:

  • Timing: August unveil at Di Space (hands-on brand venues, not ordinary showrooms)
  • Product name, height, payload, price: not released
  • Framing: interactive prototype showing, not a full factory-line launch kit

The company has been building toward this. A dedicated embodied-AI team under BYD’s 15th Business Division was reported as early as late 2024. Executive vice president Stella Li said last month she wants two or three robots in every store to introduce and demo vehicles — while stressing robots cannot replace the “emotional connection” of human sales staff. She also described an open platform for in-house robots and co-developed machines.

Automakers in the Same Lane

Chinese OEMs are treating humanoids as a supply-chain and brand extension, not a side lab:

  • Xpeng aims to mass-produce its Iron humanoid by year-end (per CnEVPost)
  • Chery-incubated Aimoga is already selling consumer humanoids
  • SAIC-GM has wheeled humanoids on a battery line
  • BYD itself has been a UBTech robot user in plant operations (2024 claim, per prior CnEVPost coverage)

The August Di Space moment is the first public hardware gate for BYD’s own badge.

A Human’s Take

I’m watching the store use case more than the sci-fi pitch. “Two or three robots per showroom” is a deployment problem — reliability, safety, content, and who owns the fall-down video on social media. When August photos land, the useful questions are boring: can it hold a conversation next to a Seal, does it walk unsupervised, and is this a retail prop or the seed of a platform. Specs first, abundance narrative later.
