NineRay Unveils RayNex G3 in Hong Kong With a Live Barbell Walk
NineRay Technology rolled out RayNex G3 at Hong Kong Science Park on Monday, August 17. China Daily’s Lu Wanqing was in the room. The robot is 173 centimeters tall, under 60 kilograms, and listed at 32 degrees of freedom.
On stage it walked while carrying more than 60 kilograms, then came back with a barbell for a side-lift demo.
What NineRay put on the spec sheet
China Daily’s report, filed from Hong Kong, gives these numbers:
- Height / mass: 173 cm, less than 60 kg
- DoF: 32 total — 7 per arm, 6 per leg, 3 neck, 3 waist
- Carry: 30 kg in operation
- Two-arm hold: 60 kg
- Deadlift range, as stated by the company: 100 to 200 kg
Founder Xu Zhigen framed G3 as a stand-in for routine manual work, from warehouse hauling to tighter maneuvers. China Daily quotes him positioning Hong Kong as the company’s “base for globalization”:
“From here, we want to go global.”
Xu also said firms in food and beverage production and the nuclear-power sector have already approached the team. That is inbound interest, not a signed deployment.
Why Hong Kong
Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation lists NineRay Intelligence (深圳九光控股有限公司) in its electronics directory as an embodied-intelligence humanoid shop: joints, control systems, collaborative arms, mobile platforms, and operating software.
Science Park CEO Terry Wong Ping-sau welcomed the launch:
“We’re glad to see NineRay putting down roots in Hong Kong.”
Lu Yang, associate dean for mainland affairs at the University of Hong Kong’s Faculty of Engineering, told China Daily he was “truly amazed” after the demo and called humanoids “a pivotal direction” for embodied-intelligence work in the city.
China Daily notes Science Park now houses more than 2,500 technology firms, including NineRay’s regional base.
A Human’s Take
A barbell walk is a payload demo, not a shift. I like the sticker numbers because they are checkable: 173 cm, 32 DoF, a live 60 kg carry. I will like them more when someone outside the launch hall repeats the deadlift range on a scale, then keeps the robot upright for an hour of tote work.
Hong Kong as a go-global base is a sales line until G3 shows up on a dock or a line. Until then, the interesting part is the metal on that stage.
