SK Telecom Gathers Eight Physical AI Startups for Robotics Push
SK Telecom is trying to turn Korea’s physical AI startup scene into joint pilots rather than a slide deck. On July 30, the carrier hosted a “Physical AI and Robotics Startup Meeting” at the SK Seorin Building in Jongno-gu, Seoul, and announced it the next day. Seoul Economic Daily covered the room list and the cooperation agenda.

What they say they will do
Participants discussed joint proof-of-concept plans across manufacturing, logistics, and services, and how to combine SK’s chips, AI data centers, digital twins, and models with startup hardware and software.
SK Telecom floated building robot learning data for robot foundation model (RFM) development inside digital twin replicas of real industrial sites — a way to speed tech that has stayed in research into field trials.
Yoo Kyung-sang, head of SK Telecom’s AI CIC, said genuine physical AI innovation needs a full-stack link from semiconductors through robot foundation models to applied services, and that SKT will keep expanding partnerships with domestic physical AI startups.
That framing matches SKT’s broader physical AI data push. On July 23, the company said ITU-T adopted its Robot Data Factory (RDF) work item on signalling and architecture for producing robot training data, aimed at digital twin–based robot learning platforms planned for the second half of the year (SK Telecom newsroom).
A Human’s Take
This is an ecosystem meeting with a clear data-center and chip angle — SK hynix in the photo is not an accident. The interesting follow-up is whether any of the eight land a named PoC with hard metrics (cycle time, intervention rate, uptime) inside an SK-linked plant or warehouse. Holiday Robotics already has its own raise story; the value of this table is multi-company access to industrial twins, not another press-row of logos.
