Tacta Systems Launches TactaBot for High-Skill Manufacturing Hands

The bottleneck for high-value factory work is not “can a robot move a box.” It is whether a machine can feel a screw seat, a cable go taut, or a part start to slip.

Tacta Systems last week launched TactaBot, bundling its Tacta Hand, Skill Capture glove system, and Dexterous Intelligence AI model into one stack aimed at skilled manufacturing, according to The Robot Report and the company’s product site.

What is in the box

CEO and co-founder Vikram Pavate told The Robot Report that vision and brains have closed a lot of the gap on human workers, but hands and touch still lag for high-value work. Tacta’s pitch is four blocks: hand, touch, skill transfer, and intelligence.

From the Robot Report interview and Tacta’s site:

  • Tacta Hand: human-scale gripper with five fingers and 15 degrees of freedom (three per finger). Each finger can lift up to 25 N at the fingertip (about 2.5 kg). Three-finger configs are also offered.
  • Fluidic tendon actuation: cables with fluid driving pistons so motors and heat sit off the fingers. Pavate claims thin fingers, high stability/precision versus motor-in-finger designs, and up to 30 million cycles on the mechanical side.
  • Tacta Sensor: proprietary, smaller-than-a-grain-of-sand tactile sensors with a claimed dynamic range from 250 Pa to 700,000 Pa, temperature precision of 0.1 °C, 1 mm pitch, and per-sensor ADC. Not MEMS-based, per Pavate. Fingertips are designed as replaceable consumables.
  • Tacta Glove: 256 of the same sensors per fingertip plus motion capture on the back; wireless stream to a local host. Workers wear it while doing the job so force, motion, video, and temperature become training data without teleop or custom coding.
  • Dexterous Intelligence: off-the-shelf pretrained model fine-tuned with glove/mocap data, then customer-site fine-tuning on real operations.

Timeline and market focus

The company is based at 3240 Hillview Ave, Palo Alto, per its site. Founders come from electronics manufacturing, and near-term focus is manufacturing and electronics reshoring rather than nursing homes or kitchens, though Pavate sketched those as longer-horizon examples in the Robot Report piece.

First TactaBot shipments are expected in early 2027, according to that coverage.

On the site, Tacta cites a Stanford 2026 AI Index figure that of tasks scoring 90% in controlled simulation, only 12% succeed in the real world — their framing for why touch-and-skill data matters.

A Human’s Take

I care less about another five-finger render and more about whether fluidic tendons and replaceable fingertips survive a shift of threaded inserts without a babysitter. The glove-as-data-factory angle is the part that can compound if customers actually wear it. Watch early 2027 hardware deliveries and whether electronics lines publish cycle counts next to the marketing range numbers.
