Tuya Unveils Doova, a Wheeled Elder-Care Companion, at IFA 2026
Tuya Smart (NYSE: TUYA; HKEX: 2391) unveiled Doova at IFA 2026 in Berlin on 5 September: a wheeled home companion aimed at seniors living alone. The pitch is not a biped that folds laundry. It is fall response, conversation, and a mobile smart-home hub in one body.
The company says Doova carries LDS LiDAR, a four-microphone sound-source localization array, and AI vision that runs skeletal recognition. A user can call “Hey Tuya, help.” The robot is supposed to find them, roll over, and check posture. If nobody answers within 60 seconds, it starts a two-way live video call to family.
What it is supposed to do
Tuya’s press release and a second IFA brief describe the same stack:
- Fall and emergency response: locate the speaker, assess posture, escalate after 60 seconds
- Multimodal conversation: bills, letters, scam flags, appliance walkthroughs, medication and weather reminders
- Away-from-home patrol: node-oriented coverage that parks in the center of a room, does a 360-degree scan, and sends a safety report to a phone
- AIoT hub: voice control of lights, curtains, kitchen, and bathroom devices on Tuya’s ecosystem
- Docking: autonomous return to a charger
The body is dual-wheel drive plus casters. Height is meant to work standing, seated, or reclining. The face is a 10.1-inch high-definition display with “dynamic facial expressions.” Tuya also says it plans later software for finding misplaced objects around the house.
Doova follows Aura, Tuya’s pet companion. The same IFA stand is showing AI Home, AI Energy, and AI Robot products in Europe for the first time. As of 30 June 2026, Tuya says its AI Developer Platform had more than 2,092,000 registered developers in more than 200 countries.
What is still missing
Humanoids Daily, covering the same debut, notes that Tuya has not published price, ship date, battery life, or whether video and skeletal data stay on the robot or go to the cloud. Rugs, thresholds, and cluttered floors are also untested in the press materials. Those are the usual killer details for a wheeled “home companion.”
A Human’s Take
I like that they picked a job a biped does not need: hear a shout, get across a room, and open a video line. The 60-second timer is a concrete spec, which is more than most companion demos bother with. I will care when someone publishes a price, a floor that is not a trade-show carpet, and a straight answer on where the camera footage lives.
