WALL-B Sorts a Messy Parcel Pile at 1,816 an Hour
X Square Robot livestreamed a logistics cell on August 12: its WALL-B embodied model driving self-developed 6-axis arms that pull mixed parcels off an unloading pile, flip labels toward a scanner, and feed a conveyor. The company’s own press release puts the hour at 1,816 parcels with over 98% accuracy.
That is the job called parcel induction. A truck dumps a pile. Someone has to pick, reorient, and belt each package. The pile changes after every grab. Soft packs need flattening. Boxes need squaring. Labels point the wrong way. CEO Wang Qian told PR Newswire the question is not one clean pick. It is whether the cell keeps deciding well as the pile mutates, recovers from a miss, and does not stall the rest of the line.
Then they took the cell to WRC
A second PR Newswire note, dated August 19, puts the same station on the World Robot Conference floor at Booth C107. The write-up repeats the 1,816/hour, >98% livestream and adds the rest of the booth: a home “day in the life” set, a flower-arranging station that takes a natural-language color request, robot-free data capture with QUANXTA Zero, and a dexterous-hand skill demo.
During the show the company also ran a multi-hour sorting livestream. A still from that feed, posted by X Square, shows the cell still working past five hours, with the on-screen counter at 9,989 parcels and a 05:13:43 timestamp. I am using that overlay as the sourced number, not a rounded marketing round-up.
Arms, not a biped, on this task
The hardware here is purpose-built arms and grippers, not a walking humanoid. Interesting Engineering’s short on the August 12 run puts Figure AI’s May cell next to it: three Figure 03 machines processed 249,560 packages across a 200-hour run, about 1,250 an hour for the whole cell. Different bet. Figure is selling a general-purpose body that can also climb a ladder. X Square is squeezing seconds out of induction.
The company still shows a humanoid on warehouse work on its site. That is a different body. The WRC sorting numbers belong to the dual-arm cell.
A Human’s Take
If I ran a dock, I would rather have 1,816 honest induction picks than a biped that can also dance. The WRC overlay at five hours is the part I care about: the pile did not win. What I still want is a named customer, a night-shift failure log, and whether the gripper stays cheap when you buy a hundred of them.
