XPeng Targets 1,000+ Iron Humanoids a Month by Year-End

XPeng is pushing Iron, its humanoid platform, toward a mass-production cadence. CnEVPost reported July 15, 2026, citing The Wall Street Journal and people familiar with the matter, that the EV maker aims to lift monthly capacity for Iron to more than 1,000 units by the end of this year, with a global product roll-out path in 2027.

Capacity, stores, and a Guangzhou base

According to the same CnEVPost summary of the WSJ reporting:

  • Store sales assistants in China: planned for Q1 2027
  • Overseas stores: later in 2027
  • Roadmap previously stated: overseas markets from Q2 2027, with a longer path toward ordinary households from 2028

To back production, XPeng began construction in Q1 2026 on a humanoid robot base in Guangzhou of about 110,000 square meters, spanning R&D validation, trial production, and scaled manufacturing.

On a March 2026 earnings call, chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said Iron would enter mass production by end of 2026 with a year-end monthly capacity target of more than 1,000 units — the same capacity number now echoed in the mid-July report.

Specs XPeng has already put on the record

From CnEVPost’s earlier technical coverage, pulled into the July piece:

  • Height 178 cm, weight 70 kg
  • All-solid-state batteries
  • Three XPeng Turing AI chips totaling 2,250 TOPS
  • Second-generation VLA (Vision-Language-Action) model

He took personal “CEO” responsibility for the robotics unit in June 2026 and reorganized the robotics center into new departments to accelerate commercialization. Physical AI-related R&D spend is expected to reach RMB 7 billion (~$1.03 billion) this year, per the report.

Morgan Stanley analysts, as cited via WSJ in the same article, expect China humanoid shipments of 50,000 units in 2026 and 100,000 next year — industry context, not an XPeng guarantee.

A Human’s Take

A thousand units a month is a factory claim, not a keynote vibe. What I care about is whether those robots show up as working store assistants in 2027 with real uptime, or as showroom mannequins that need a teleoperator in the back room. XPeng’s auto supply chain is a real advantage on the body; the product still has to survive a full retail shift.
